BOOST FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION – School officials have gotten some good news from the state. The town is in line to collect $385,258 in federal funds to help pay for special education support and care for students in the district. The money, which is expected to be handed out by the state Department of Education by the end of the month, is part of a $280 million effort to help 116 school districts maintain programs. It is in addition to federal funds the town already gets to defray its special education costs. Department of Education spokesman Jonathan Palumbo said that by fall, Watertown may stand to collect more aid, though the final amount had not been determined. – Christina Pazzanese
