As of of March 1, 2010, the Architectural Access Board will be requiring that a “Notice of Service” be completed by all those applying for variance applications from 521 CMR. This “Notice of Service” is attached to the new variance application forms and requires that each applicant must bring the variance application and all supplemental information to the Local/State Building Inspector, Local Commission on Disability, and Local Independent Living Center to have someone from each of those departments/offices sign this “Notice of Service”. This signature will serve as verification that each of the required departments/offices have received a copy of the application that will be submitted to the AAB Office. These new forms are available online at the AAB website by February 1, 2010.

As of March 1, 2010, the AAB will only accept these new variance forms and will not process any variance applications that do not have a completed “Notice of Service” form.

For your convenience, I have attached a copy of the new forms for both building and curb cut/sidewalk variance requests, along with a copy of our new “Variance Process Fact Sheet” pamphlet, and a copy of the new complaint forms (no major changes have been done to the complaint forms, just a change of the letterhead). If you provide AAB forms in your office, please dispose of all of the old forms and replace them with these new forms.

If you have any questions about the new forms, please feel free to either e-mail or call the office.
