With the aging of the baby boomer generation, hearing loss is one of the fastest growing disabilities in the United States. In fact President Bill Clinton was diagnosed with a hearing loss and began using a hearing aid while still in office.
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders of the National Institutes of Health, at least 28 million Americans have hearing loss, with recent data suggesting it may be as high as 31 million. It is estimated that 78 million Americans will have hearing loss by 2030.
Many thanks to Pam Piantedosi for piloting closed captioning on her new talk show—Mind Your Own Business, and to Peter Zawadzki and his team at WCAS, and Phil Hyssong and his team at Caption First for making this happen!
As WCOD.org settles into a regular reporting-groove, we’ll be bringing you updates on captioned programming/scheduling and news on other communication accessible events and services in the community.
