On January 24th The Diverse Communities Committee of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership will be hosting three nation-wide roundtable discussions in January 2007 to identify needs, gaps in traditional models, existing practices and needed resources for populations including urban environments, rural environments, and students with disabilities. The free roundtable event will be held via teleconference at 1 PM Eastern Standard Time for 90 minutes on the following date, focusing on this discussion topic:

Students with Disabilities: Wednesday, January 24, 1 PM EST: The community of students with disabilities is an extremely diverse group of children who experience a physical, developmental, medical, sensory or psychological disability, with many receiving special education services. While community mobility is critical to the right of inclusion of children (and adults) with disabilities in society, active transportation is often uncommon among these students due to a lack of accessible infrastructure, skills development training and supportive services.

Your participation is very important! If you have experience with schools or students in any of these groups, please RSVP to saferoutes@bikesbelong.org. Be sure to include:

* Your name * Your contact information * The organization or group you represent * The calls that you would like to participate in

After we receive your RSVP, we will let you know that you are confirmed to participate. On January 22, we will send all participants additional information including the call-in number.
