The Watertown Commission on Disability has created a Safety and Access subcommittee which has the responsibility to research and make recommendations about any situations related to the safety and accessibility for persons with disabilties.
The subcommittee is cross-disability: representing residents and others including persons who are blind, have mobility disabilities and hearing loss.
The subcommittee is charged with:
- identifying and resolving safety and accessibility issues with public ways in the town;
- improving the community and town communication system to speed up responses to community complaints or concerns on these issues and;
- via a subcommittee chair, 2010 Kim Charlson, reporting back to the Commission on Disability and Gayle Shattuck, ADA liaison to the town and, if requested, the Town Manager and/or Town Council) on a monthly basis with updates.
If any issue regarding safety to our citizens arise, specific issues needing immediate attention and response should be addressed via The Watertown Request for Service Tracker or email to Gayle Shattuck to be addressed with the Disability Commission
